Online Tools for Nonprofits
| Several online tools
have been created to help your organization equip, train,
communicate, and collaborate with your staff, board,
and volunteers. These tools have been developed based
on over a decade’s experience working with nonprofit
organizations that rely on a significant number of volunteers
to accomplish their nonprofit missions. |

On-line
Policies and Procedures |
| |
Have you ever asked yourself, “What is our policy
on that?” And you are a leader in the organization!
Committee meetings, staff meetings,
drafts, proposals and final publication. While many
organizations recognize the need for policies and
procedures to ensure compliance with laws and maintain
minimum standards of conduct, all too often policies
are forgotten, seldom reviewed by new staff, or exist
only in a key employee’s or volunteer’s
head.
Your organization’s policies
should be well written, concise, easy to understand,
and available to those who need them. Without question,
policies and procedures should be created for most
aspects of financial management, employment practices,
and any program that would create risk of potential
liability, such as services provided to children,
the elderly, or handicapped.
This on-line tool provides a collaborative
environment where your organization’s leaders
and others can work together to draft, review, and
publish legal and risk management policies that comply
with federal and state laws, embody best practices
for your sector, and allow your board to sleep well
at night!
When a new policy is published,
the appropriate staff and volunteer leader will receive
email notification and access to the new policy. Staff
and board members will also be able to access your
policies whenever they need them.

On-line
Resources |
| |
Did you ever read something that you knew would benefit
your staff or volunteers, but somehow it never made
it into their hands?
Newspapers, magazines, trade journals,
blogs, web-sites – nonprofit leaders are inundated
with information, much of it excellent and useful.
Yet even if you have the time to read through it all,
the greater challenge is to figure out how to get
the right information to the right people in your
organization.
This on-line tool provides
a mechanism to distribute resources through a secure
web environment to your staff and volunteers, including
forms, training manuals, PDF’s, MP3’s,
video clips, and helpful web-links. This tool allows
you to control access to resources so that you are
able to provide the right resources to the right people.
Over time, you will build up a resource library that
will be available to staff and volunteers twenty-four
hours a day.

On-line
Training |
| |
Have you ever been frustrated by the challenge of
training your volunteers?
As never before, volunteers’ schedules are
often filled to overflowing. Although good intentioned,
your potential or current volunteers are often unable
to attend training sessions that would allow them
to be more engaged in your organization.
Organizations are now turning to the internet to
offer an alternative to on-site training. The world-wide
web allows the opportunity to train volunteers twenty-four
hours a day from the comfort of their own computer
(and home). While not all training is conducive to
on-line training, much is.
This on-line tool has been designed to create simple,
fifteen to twenty minute training sessions that can
be completed on-line. Utilizing text, graphics, and
short quizzes, these sessions communicate the vital
information necessary both to equip your staff and
volunteers to succeed in their roles, and to protect
your organization by ensuring that important safety
or legally required training takes place.
By conducting policy training on-line, your hands-on
time with volunteers can then be focused on the more
exciting aspects of advancing your organization’s
mission.
A tracking module will also allow your board or staff
to monitor training progress and completion. With
effective training, your organization can not only
minimize legal risks and accidents, but also strengthen
staff and volunteer morale as they become more equipped
and adept at their leadership roles.

Discussion
Boards |
| |
Did you ever send out a simple email inquiry to a
group of people only to discover that within hours
your inbox was filled with unwanted email response
strings?
Email is great for some things, such as communicating
information or for simple inquiries. It is not a good
forum for in depth discussions.
Yet, often it is quite difficult to convene a meeting
every time an issue arises that involves a group of
nonprofit leaders, such as the board of directors
or a committee of volunteers.
Through the use of private on-line discussion boards,
nonprofit leaders can engage staff and volunteers
on topics, facilitating important dialog without clogging
the email in-box!
Discussion board access can be easily assigned to
only those individuals you desire to participate.
Invited guests will receive email notification and
may join in at their convenience.
